Helen is one of the biggest energy companies in Finland. At Taiste I’ve been a Lead Designer in their team, continuously improving the look and feel of Helen’s digital services. My main responsibility has been Helen’s web services.
A lot of the design work has included service design work in co-operation with Helen's own service design team.
Creating a smooth user experience while taking Helen's business goals into account is no easy feat: there's a great deal of information that needs to be easily available on the site but risks making the experience confusing for the user.
Getting the information architecture right is an essential part of Helen’s web presence. User flows must be easy to navigate through and the user should never feel lost.
I’ve learned a lot about managing and designing large web services throughout the project. When improving an existing site it’s important to do it one thing at a time. Otherwise it’s easy to get overwhelmed.
I’ve also been part of creating a company wide design system and visual style for all digital services in co-operation with Helen’s other designers.
This has made it possible to unify helen.fi and helensahkoverkko.fi. They now use the same elements and CMS which makes managing and creating content easier.
At Helen I’ve had a change to be part of creating new kind of products and services. Many of them are linked to green energy transition which I find meaningful and important.
In 2024 I was the UX designer in a project which makes it possible to adjust any Helen’s electricity contract to have CO2 free or renewable electricity. In this project it was important to ensure that the new features and as intuitive and clear as possible.
Design and development of Helen’s web services has been a close operation between Helen’s own team, Taiste and Tietoevry.
Feedback score from customers using helen.fi has improved steadily as design work has progressed. It was an excellent 4,2/5 in 2024 based on over 17 000 feedbacks.
In addition to helen.fi I also worked as a UX designer in a renewal of helensahkoverkko.fi in 2023. The project involved a new information architecture and systematic way of implementing Helen’s design system.
