Hesburger
UI/UX

Role: UX Designer (2018-19 & 2022)
Hesburger is a Finnish fast food chain with 500 restaurants worldwide. At Taiste I’ve been designing several services for Hesburger, including their restaurant order delivery tablet and order display. I’ve also been part of the team creating the design system for Hesburger that is used across all their internal applications.

Order deliver tablet is one of the services I’ve been part of designing for Hesburger. I was the UX Designer for the MVP version of the service in 2020 and a more robust version in 2022.

The tablet was designed to make the employee’s work flow easier in a time when there are many different ordering channels (delivery apps, Hesburger app, drive-in and so on). Design and development of the service was guided by user input and feedback.

Order delivery project also included a new version of order display that is visible for customers in Hesburger restaurants. Screen shows the user when their order will be ready for pick-up.

The design of the display has to take into account a number of special circumstances, like how it adapts to different situations like rush hours. The design must also be clear and easy to look even in a busy and noisy restaurant environment. Here are some of the test layouts from the design process.

Order tablet and display are in use in Hesburger restaurants all over Finland. New features are being added based on user and business needs.
Hesburger’s order management overhaul is a finalist in 3 categories at Grand One 2025: Best Digital Service, Best User Experience and Best Service Design

The components of the Hesburger design system are used in many different devices and applications so they need to be endlessly flexible. Some solutions are used on a laptop, some are used on a touch screen and some might only have a limited keyboard for control. Ensuring flexibility was one of the key challenges.

Designing the system has included everything from large-scale decisions to very small details like icon designs and forming a consistent illustration style. Design systems like this require a constant discussion between the designers, developers and the customer.

The design system and all the materials related to it have been designed and developed in close co-operation between Taiste and Hesburger’s own team.
