Savonlinna Opera Festival

Role: UX & Visual Designer (2019-2020)
Savonlinna Opera Festival is one of the most well known festivals in Finland with a long history. Over the years their website had been cluttered with too much information and it was also technically outdated. Opera Festival and Taiste did a complete overhaul to the website and I was in charge of the user experience and visuals of the new site.

Starting from scratch
First we re-designed the whole site architecture from the ground up. We removed all the unnecessary filler and focused on things that the opera visitors and fans truly want to see on the site. We also made sure the ticket buying experience is always as simple as possible.

One step at a time
The new site structured was made with care and it was tested with users. Only after that we moved on to make wireframes of the main views. With this method we made sure the site structure works before moving on to designing the visual design. We also focused on making the site work well on all different devices.

Annually changing visuals
Savonlinna Opera Festival had put a lot of effort in their new visual identity, so it was important that the new site reflects it well. It was also important to make the visuals flexible because the colors and themes of the festival change each year. Now the site can be easily modified every year to match the theme.

It was important for the Opera Festival to make the site easy to manage and update so it was built on Wordpress. The technical implementation of the site was done by Into-Digital.
